Sharing of an except from Adam Hamilton's 3/24/2006 e-notes Newsletter

Adam Hamilton is pastor of Church of the Resurrection which is located in suburban Kansas City, Kansas. This except from his e-letter is shared with us by James Finger, treasurer of the Memphis Annual Conference. Finger says: “I thought you might find the attached apportionment philosophy a refreshing change from what we hear . . . so often.”

We've had a terrific start to the year here at Church of the Resurrection. I want to thank you for your faithfulness in worship attendance - we've had weekends in the last six weeks where worship attendance has been up as much as 20% over the same time last year. We had one of the largest joining groups ever in January. Offerings are running above projections so far. We've had a lot of new visitors. Our Children's Ministries and Student Ministries continue to soar. I am told we now have 130 youth who have signed up to serve on one of seven leadership teams in Student Ministries, and that is exciting! On this past Wednesday night alone the building was filled with more than 2,000 people who were coming for Bible studies, Lenten Academy, choir, support groups, and youth group. It is amazing just to walk the halls and peer into the various rooms to see what God is doing in our church.

On another note, we paid half of our annual denominational apportionments (funds each church is asked to contribute by the denomination as our fair share of the mission and outreach work of the entire denomination) for the coming year in February, and we will finish paying them in full for the year next week. Most churches pay these funds monthly throughout the year. Since we began Church of the Resurrection we've aimed to pay our apportionments in full in the first quarter as a way of helping and supporting the ministries dependent upon our gifts. Our apportionments totaled $950,000 this year. With these monies you help fund missionaries around the world, schools and universities, inner city mission agencies, new church development and so much more. It was money others had given in their apportionments that funded the start-up of Church of the Resurrection in the early 1990's and purchased our first 20 acres of land.

All of which is a way of saying, "Thank you!" Your commitment to Christ, the giving of your time in ministry, your faithfulness in worship attendance, and your faithful financial support of Christ's work in this place are making a difference in the lives of people near and far.

In Christ's Love!
Adam Hamilton

Hispanic Pastor Desires to start a coalition of Individuals Interested in exploring/brainstorming ways to minister to the Hispanic/Latino Community

Hello amigos:

I am sharing with you my desire to start a coalition of churches, pastors and individuals willing to step out in faith and explore ways to meet the needs of the growing Hispanic/Latino Community within the Tennessee Conference.

Maybe I am not the one to start ministries right now but together we can! At the bottom there are listed some ideas for a WeCare Coalition.

Please suggest changes or ideas you would add to the document and I invite you to join me in the effort to bring racial reconciliation to our Conference and start moving forward instead of backwards in these
ministries.

Are there any days that you can come to Cookeville and meet and talk about it? Please let me know......and please let's start moving!! ok...

Sincerely and in His Grace

The WeCare Coalition

WeCare Coalition is a group of churches, pastors and individuals who care about the needs of the Hispanic/Latino Community in the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church and would like to explore ways to help this growing Community. It will work in concert with and in support of other bodies within the Conference currently working in the same area.

We believe that the Grace of God is for everybody and it doesn't matter of the race, language or status.

We believe that the only way to bring true transformation is through the suffering power of Christ in the cross.

We recognized that we are broken and we need Him constantly.

We believe in racial reconciliation because is what Jesus taught us through his life. We care about building good relationships between the races living in Tennessee.

We are here to plan, develop and carry on the growth of Multicultural
Churches and to encourage others to get educated about other cultures living in our State.

United Methodist Choirs Invited to Be Part of New York Choir Festival Celebrating the 300th Anniversary of Charles Wesley's birth

In 2007, we celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of one of the most prolific hymn writers in history - Charles Wesley. To celebrate the life, mission, and music of this great individual, Music Celebrations International is organizing a Choir Festival in the Lincoln Center in New York City and we are inviting Methodist Choirs from across the country to come together in New York to fellowship through music and to share the Message through song.

http://www.musiccelebrations.com/wesley_choral_festival.html

A new commissioned piece entitled Directions for Singing will be premiered at this event with full orchestra. The goal is to have representation from each jurisdication at this event. We could use your help in locating fine Methodist Choirs in your conference that we can invite to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity OR if you feel more comfortable, we would greatly appreciate you forwarding this message on to such choirs.

Thank you for your help, and God bless!
