McKendree Village Foundation Offers Free Estate Planning Home Study Course

Nashville, TN – McKendree Village Foundation, Inc., which provides philanthropic support for the work and mission of McKendree Village continuing care retirement community, is offering a five-part Estate Planning Home Study Course to people interested in leaving a financial legacy to their families and to charities. The course, which is offered to McKendree Village residents, is also offered at no cost to 100 people in the Nashville community on a first come / first served basis.

“We offered this program last year and received a strong response from people wanting to do estate planning, but not sure where to begin,” said Bill Black, executive director of McKendree Village Foundation. “We decided to offer this basic course in estate planning again in 2006 as a service to our residents and as a public service to the community.”

The Estate Planning Home Study Course is intended to provide timely information and practical motivation to help individuals undertake estate planning. The course is presented in easy-to-read lessons that explain the benefits of estate and gift planning. It is in no way intended to take the place of consultation with an attorney or accountant, but only equips participants to begin the estate planning process.

The five lessons in the series are 1) How You Can Shape the Future, an introduction to estate planning, 2) How to Make a Better Will, 3) How to Cope with Estate Tax Uncertainty, 4) How Trusts Can Improve Your Estate Plan, and 5) How to Boost Income and Cut Taxes Now. The lessons are sent one at a time to course participants over a period of five weeks. There is a brief multiple-choice quiz at the end of each lesson to test knowledge. At the conclusion of the course, participants are offered a free copy of the booklet, Your Personal Estate Planning Record, which can be used to determine net worth and set up or review financial and charitable giving plans.
